Meet our Pastor

The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (the founder of the Christian Science church) are ordained as our Pastor. We use the King James Version of the Bible unless otherwise announced.

The Sunday service includes selections from the Bible and correlated commentary from our text book. Each week, the student of Christian Science studies selections from these two books on one of the 26 subjects chosen by Mrs. Eddy.  Through the study and application of the spiritual ideas presented in these Bible lessons, the student gains a growing understanding of God and of man's inseparable relationship to Him.  This increased spiritual understanding results in the healing of sickness and sin blessing the student, the community and our world.

These books are the Pastor at our Wednesday evening testimony meetings as well.

We are a church of laypersons. The services and local church activities are conducted by members elected from the congregation.

We support rotation in office.  On one election cycle, a member may be elected the chairman of the Board, while on the next cycle their job may be to straighten the hymnals in the racks.

The Sunday services have been developed by a committee at The Mother Church in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and the same service is read in every Christian Science Church around the world on any given Sunday.

The Mother Church

"The Mother Church" is a colloquial term for The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts.

Applications for membership in The Mother Church are welcome now. The admission of new members takes place in May and in October each year.

Completed forms for the next admission should reach the Clerk of the Mother Church in Boston, MA no later than the 1st of May or the 1st of October. There is no need to wait, since applications can be sent in as soon as they are complete.

As you are considering membership, you'll want to review the platform of Christian Science found in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (pages 330 to 340). Also, please review the Church Manual-- especially the Tenets of The Mother Church (page 15) and “Qualifications for Membership” (page 34).

Daily Bible Study

Daily Bible study is an important part of Christian Science.  Because the topics are published in advance in the Christian Science Quarterly, students are able to study the sermon using Bible commentaries, dictionaries and internet research well in advance of the time they hear the topic at the service.

This church maintains a Reading Room in downtown Chico that is open to the public as a resource for their spiritual study.

How to join the Chico branch church

You can speak to any usher or email the Clerk at cschurchchico@gmail.com
